Food Blogger Favorite Recipes: Show Me The Curry's Mushroom Pulao

BlogHer Original Post

To celebrate BlogHer Food '10, we've asked some of the food bloggers in the BlogHer network to share their favorite recipes.

Hetal and Anuja of Show Me The Curry

Hetal Jannu and Anuja Balasubramanian, co-founders of ShowMeTheCurry.com, didn't know what they were getting into when they took their hobby of cooking and ventured online. What started out as a way to pass time while the kids were in school has turned into full-time jobs for both of them. ShowMeTheCurry.com (http://showmethecurry.com) is one of the leading online resources that takes a modern and practical approach to traditional Indian and South Asian cuisine.

Anuja immigrated from India with little cooking experience. When she came to the US, she admits that she was not able to identify one daal (lentil) from the next. She started cooking Indian food from the ground up, making mistakes and learning from them. She hopes to be able to pass on the knowledge to others delving into Indian cuisine so that they don't make the same mistakes she did.

Hetal grew up in a family that promoted experimentation in the kitchen. She started cooking and experimenting with different cuisines at a young age. She rarely reads recipes and prefers to come up with new and different dishes by "adding a bit of this" and "a pinch of that". Her advice to anyone new in the kitchen: "Don't be afraid to mess up. You will always learn something new from your mistakes."

Anuja and Hetal bring their strong backgrounds in cooking to a new level with their step-by-step, easy to follow video recipes. Realizing how frustrating it can be for someone to read a recipe and imagine what the product should look like at every stage of the cooking process, they make their videos clear and concise, offering useful tips and tricks along the way. Both hope to make Indian and South Asian cuisine more accessible and less intimidating, even for the novice.

Their favorite recipe: mushroom pulao. I am making all the food blogger favorites this year -- have you tried it? I can't wait for this one -- I could eat it every day.
